Nagoya City municipal sports facilities can be used for various sports and other purposes. There are over 130 municipal sports facilities – including sports centers (with volleyball, badminton, basketball, and futsal courts), tennis courts, baseball fields, athletic fields, football and rugby fields, gateball fields, and baseball stadiums. Nagoya City Sports Centers are open from 09:00 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday, until 18:00 on Sundays and holidays, and closed either on Mondays or Fridays. Most sports centers have a heated, indoor pool and a training room with weights and machines. These facilities are open to the general public.
★Example Costs
Compared to private clubs and facilities, Nagoya’s municipal sports facilities can be rented at a very reasonable rate if used for amateur sports or public recreational use. There is no change in costs for weekends or holidays!
- A badminton court at Chikusa Sports Center’s #1 Arena from 09:00 – 12:00 costs 1800 Yen.
- A basketball / volleyball court at Chikusa Sports Center’s #1 Arena from 18:00 – 21:00 costs 3400 Yen.
- To rent the entire #1 Arena at Chikusa Sports Center from 15:00 – 18:00 costs only 8900 Yen!
- A tennis court at Meijo Tennis Courts in Kita Ward from 15:00 – 17:00 costs1000 Yen.
- The football pitch at the Tsurumai Athletic Ground in Naka Ward from 17:30 – 21:30 costs 4700 Yen + lighting costs.
- The Chikusa Koen Baseball Ground in Chikusa Ward from 08:30 – 12:00 costs 1900 Yen
If you would like to use a facility for a game with friends or colleagues, the person reserving the facility has to first pre-register. User registration applications are free and are accepted at each facility or at the Sports Information Center (located opposite the Nippon Gaishi Arena in Kasadera). On registration you will receive a user number and PIN. You can then reserve a sports facility for use either in person at the facility or on the Internet (some facilities excluded). There are no registration or annual membership fees.
★Reserving a Facility Through Lottery
The usage of courts and facilities are first filled by lottery:
- For the exclusive use of an arena or facility (全面専用) – you can enter the usage lottery between January 1 – 19 (for April to September) and July 1 to July 19 (for October to March).
- For a tennis court, part of an arena (example badminton court), baseball ground etc (一部専用) – you can enter the usage lottery held 2 months before your desired month.
- Payment of rental fees decided by lottery can be made by direct debit or in cash.

★Reserving Available Facilities on a First-Come Basis
Any facilities not taken during the lottery are available on a first-come basis and usage fees can be paid in cash on the day (except Shonai Green Plaza).
★Swimming Pools プール
It costs 500 Yen for adults and 200 Yen for under 15s to use the city pools. Books of tickets are also available; 11 for the price of 10 and 25 for the price of 20. Additionally, a monthly pass is also available; 4000 Yen for adults, 2000 Yen for under 15s. Children under 6 need to be accompanied by an adult. A swimming cap and towel are required.
★Training Rooms トレーニング室
Training rooms usually include a number of treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines, weights, and more. It costs 300 Yen for adults and 100 Yen for children to use the training rooms. A block of 5 tickets is also available; 1000 Yen for adults, 400 Yen for under 15s. Additionally, a monthly pass is also available; 1600 Yen for adults, 800 Yen for under 15s. Children under 12 are not allowed. Indoor shoes and towel are required.

- Higashi Sports Center is located next to the Nagoya Dome and is a 2 minute walk from Nagoya Dome-mae Yada Subway Station; closed on Mondays. Tel 052-723-0411
- Kita Sports Center – city buses Kurokawa 11 (黒川11) or Sakae 1 (栄1) from Kurokawa Subway Station. Get off at Nakagiri-cho yon-chome 中切町四丁目; closed on Fridays. Tel: 052-917-0501.
- Meito Sports Center – Kan Hongo 1 (幹本郷1) city bus from Hongo Subway Station. Get off at Shogaisha Sports Center; closed on Mondays. Tel: 052-705-4948.
- Midori Sports Center – Kan Naruko 1 (幹鳴子1) city bus from Naruko Kita Subway Station. Get off at Midori Sports Center; closed on Mondays. Tel: 052-891-7775.
- Moriyama Sports Center is a 1 minute walk from Obata Ryokuchi 小幡緑地 on the Yutorīto Line (ゆとりーとライン) out of Ozone; closed on Fridays. Tel: 052-792-7066.
- Naka Sports Center is located between Shirakawa Park and the Hori River, and is an 8 minute walk from exit 4 of Osu Kannon Subway Station; closed on Mondays. Tel: 052-232-2327.
- Nakamura Sports Center is next to Nakamura Koen and is a 7 minute walk from exit 1 of Nakamura Nisseki Subway Station; closed on Mondays. Tel 052-413-8021
- Nanyo Pool (Minato Ku) – 50m pool – Tokai 12 (東海12) city bus bound for Sun Beach Nikkogawa from Minato Kuyakusho Subway Station. Get off at Fuji-mae-go-chome; closed on Fridays. Tel: 052-303-2015.
- Showa Sports Center is located next to Fukiage Park and is an 8 minute walk from exit 4 of Fukiage Subway Station; closed on Fridays. Tel: 052-733-6831

- Tsuyuhashi Sport Center (Nakagawa Ku) is a 7 minute walk from JR Otobashi 尾頭橋 or Meitetsu Sano 山王Stations closed on Fridays. Tel: 052-362-4411
★Nippon Gaishi Sports Plaza (Minami Ku) has a 50m, 8-lane, Olympic-sized, indoor swimming pool that is open to the general public. The pool (8 lanes, 50m long, 1.2m deep) is open year round to the public Tuesday – Saturday (10:00 – 20:30), Weekends & Holidays (10:00 – 18:00). Closed on Mondays and at New Year. The number of lanes and opening times are restricted on some days. The pool is segregated to provide exclusive lanes for strong swimmers, walkers, slow swimmers, and general recreational use.
- Admission: Adults 700 Yen. Under 15s 300 Yen. A block of 5 tickets is also available; 11 for the price of 10 and 25 for the price of 20. Additionally, a monthly pass is also available; 7000 Yen for adults, 3000 Yen for under 15s.
- Restrictions: To enter the ticket gate, all children need to be accompanied by an adult; children between 6 and 8 need to be accompanied by an adult in the pool, and children under 6 are not allowed. A swimming cap and towel are required.
- Access: a 3 minute walk from JR Kasadera Station, located off the JR Tokaido Line between Nagoya and Okazaki; closed on Mondays. Tel: 052-614-6211.
